The background score and soundtrack were composed by AR Rahman, with lyrics made by Gulzar. The film was his last film before his death in October 2012, at the age of 80. Yash Chopra again directed eight years after Veer- Zaara. The film was the first collaboration between Khan and Kaif, and the second between Khan and Sharma. The film features Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead role.
